The world’s most popular short video platform has recently launched the  TikTok Creativity Program Beta. Why didn’t the creators like the previous monetization program and why the new one focuses only on videos that are over a minute long? How can you finally start making the money that you deserve and what community guidelines do you need to be aware of?

Update: the Creativity Program is out of beta. TikTok has recently introduced the new Creator Rewards Program.

Here is everything that you need to know to make the most out of the program.

What Is TikTok Creativity Program Beta?

TikTok's new Creativity Program is the latest solution the company has put in place to tackle monetization challenges for creators. Unlike the old Creator Fund program, this one gives creators who make videos longer than a minute a special reward. The new plan came about after the founders looked closely at what creators had to say. They wanted to fix some of the issues that came up with the old monetization system.

The program currently operates in seven major markets:

  • The United States
  • United Kingdom
  • France
  • Germany
  • Brazil
  • Japan
  • Korea

TikTok has hinted at more expansion on the way, but we don't know exactly when just yet. By gradually rolling this out, they can make adjustments based on real-world use before making it available more widely.

The Creativity Program Beta is based on the idea that creators should be rewarded for creating longer content. By offering creators more chances to make money from their work, TikTok hopes to encourage more users to stick around and engage with the content. This is a good fit with what other companies in the industry are doing, which is moving towards more complex, story-based content that keeps viewers interested for longer than usual.

How Does TikTok Creativity Program Work?

The way the Creativity Program Beta works shows how TikTok values its content in a really smart way. They don't just have a basic system where you're paid based on views. They have lots of different factors that they use to decide how much creators should be paid.

These include things like:

  • How many people watch your videos
  • How many people stick around to see the whole thing
  • How original your content is

It's not just about the length when it comes to creating content for TikTok. Videos have to demonstrate originality and maintain high production quality. The TikTok team looks at how much people are engaging with content to make sure creators are focused on creating content that people will love, not just on the quantity of the videos they're posting.

To get the green light, a video has to get at least 1,000 qualified views. Qualified views are ones that last at least five seconds and don't get marked as "not interested" by viewers.

To figure out which videos are the most successful, the program looks at a range of factors. Videos that get lots of comments, shares, and likes get better compensation. This approach encourages creators to make content that attracts views and encourages people to interact with it on TikTok.

TikTok Creativity Program Beta Rules

TikTok has pretty strict eligibility criteria for the Creativity Program Beta to make sure that the people taking part are up to the job. Creators have to tick off quite a few boxes before they can get access to the program.

  • There are age restrictions in place for creators—you have to be at least 18 years old to join the program
  • The program only takes applications from personal accounts that are up to date. This means business accounts can't take part. The TikTok Creativity Program Beta requirements are in place to make sure the program stays fair while also helping creators who are already established on the platform to keep taking part.
  • Right now, there are geographic restrictions that only allow people from the seven designated countries to participate, and each region has its own specific operational guidelines.
  • Creators have to make sure their content meets TikTok's community guidelines and is up to scratch when it comes to monetization. The platform keeps an eye on participating accounts to make sure they're staying compliant.

Can Other Countries Participate in the Program?

There is a way to become part of the program, even if you don’t reside in any of the seven countries specified above. But before we get any further, you should be aware that using this method goes against community guidelines. If TikTok finds out that you’re lying about your residency, your account will get banned.

  1. Use a VPN to change your location to France, for example.
  2. Go to your browser and create a new TikTok account. When choosing your country from the list, pick the one that you’ve got your VPN set to.
  3. Enter your real birth date and select “sign up with email” (in such a case, you won’t need another country’s phone number).
  4. Once you’ve verified your email, spend about 10 minutes on the platform liking and commenting, so that the system has time to register that you’re in the country that you have specified.
  5. Link your PayPal when choosing a payment method that works for you.
  6. Now it’s time to submit your tax information. Depending on the country you decide to pick, you might be offered an option to select “no” when being asked whether you’re a tax resident or not.

This method might work in some cases, but you should definitely weigh all the pros and cons before using it.

Here’s the rest of the information you need to know about joining the program…

How to Join TikTok Creativity Program

The process of joining the new creativity program is different for creators who are already enrolled in the Creator Fund. To switch over, you just have to find your way through the settings menu to the new program. One important thing to remember, though, is that you can't go back once you've made the change. You're locked into the Creativity Program Beta. Also, bear in mind that the Creator Fund is no longer available to sign up for.

  • If you're applying for the first time, the first thing you need to do is check that you meet the eligibility criteria and then you can submit your application via the TikTok app.
  • The platform usually takes about three days to review applications. But it can take a bit longer—it depends on the volume and other factors.
  • As part of the application process, creators need to verify their identity and agree to the program's terms and conditions.
  • If you're selected, you'll get access to a better creator dashboard with more detailed analytics and earnings data. This dashboard is great for keeping an eye on performance and seeing how different types of content affect your earnings.

By the way, if your application is rejected, you can try once again in 30 days.

TikTok Creativity Program Beta Payout Structure

The new and improved Creativity Program Beta is paying out much more than its predecessor. While the Creator Fund often only paid a few cents per thousand views, the new program is offering creators much more. Creators have been reporting earnings of anywhere from $100 to $600 per million views, and some are even getting much higher rates.

The program's pricing model encourages both viral success and sustained user engagement, giving creators multiple avenues for monetization success.

The payment calculations look at a lot more than just the number of views. When deciding who gets compensated, the program takes into account things like:

  • Viewer engagement
  • Video completion rates
  • Content quality

This approach encourages creators to focus on making content that's engaging and high-quality, rather than just chasing views.

Remember that the videos eligible for the program need to be at least one minute long and have over a thousand views.

TikTok Creativity Program Beta vs. Creator Fund

The switch from Creator Fund to the Creativity Program Beta isn't just a name change. The new program fixes a lot of problems that people had with the old one, especially when it comes to pay and content requirements. The Creator Fund got a lot of flak for its low payouts, which were sometimes just a few cents per thousand views. The Creativity Program Beta shows promise for higher earnings though.

  • TikTok Creator Fund available countries slightly differed from those of the Program. For example, the Fund was previously available in Spain and Italy, so it'll be interesting to see whether the platform plans to expand to more countries down the line.
  • There are some big differences in the content requirements between the two programs. The Creativity Program Beta focuses on longer content, which shows that TikTok is moving towards more substantial, engaging material. This aligns with what's going on in the industry, and it gives creators the chance to develop more in-depth content.
  • The new program also offers a better understanding of how earnings are calculated and more in-depth analytics tools. Content creators can now see how their content is performing and what is affecting their earnings, which helps them plan and execute content more strategically.

How to Start Creating Videos That Are Over a Minute Long?

Creators now have to come up with new ways to make longer, more interesting videos that keep viewers engaged for the whole length. This has led to new content formats and ways of telling stories that are designed for videos that are more than a minute long.

Successful creators often use smart strategies when making videos. They think about things like pacing, narrative structure, and engagement triggers.

Here are a few content ideas that tend to maintain viewers’ engagement:

  1. Step-by-Step Tutorials
  1. Storytelling Content
  1. Educational Content
  1. List-Style Videos
  1. Investigation/Deep Dives
  1. Transformation Content
  2. Behind-the-Scenes

Is TikTok Creativity Program Beta Worth It?

The program has a better earning potential than the Creator Fund, but you've got to produce a lot of high-quality, longer content to succeed. Creators have to think about the extra work it will take and how it will benefit them. They also have to consider if the program's requirements fit with what they want to do and their audience's preferences.

Also, remember that you can get removed from the program, if any of the following happens:

  1. Violations of Program Rules
  • Posting prohibited content
  • Copyright infringement
  • Violating TikTok's community guidelines
  • Not maintaining the required video length (as TikTok wants to encourage creators to make longer content, posting short clips might decrease your earning potential)
  • Using artificial methods to inflate views
  1. Performance Issues
  • Low video completion rates
  • Consistently poor engagement
  • Not meeting minimum view requirements
  • Irregular posting schedule
  1. Account Problems
  • Account age drops below 18
  • Account gets banned/suspended
  • Switching to a business account
  • Location changes to an unsupported region

The Future of the Program

What happened to the TikTok creativity program shows that the platform is changing for the better. TikTok is committed to helping creators make money, and that goes beyond the Creativity Program Beta. The platform is still working on new ways to make money, and we can look forward to seeing what they come up with next.

Creating consistent, high-quality content for TikTok's Creativity Program Beta can be challenging (there are quite a few strict rules you would have to follow!).

This is where BigMotion comes in handy. Our AI-powered video creation platform streamlines the process of producing engaging videos that are a minimum of one minute long. You can automate the script writing, generate AI voiceovers through ElevenLabs, create custom visuals, and add auto-generated captions. All of this is done while maintaining the originality and quality standards demanded by the Creativity Program Beta.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the minimum payout threshold?

The minimum amount that you can withdraw is $50. If you haven’t earned that much within a month, your earnings will get rolled over to the next month, but in some cases, the unpaid amount might be deemed expired.

Do all my videos need to be over one minute long?

Only videos longer than one minute are eligible for monetization through the program. You can still post shorter videos, but they won't generate program earnings. However, if you want to go the extra mile, you might want to stop posting shorter videos altogether, as that’s not what the platform is trying to focus on at the moment.

How often are payments processed?

Payments will be made on the 15th of the month. However, the time of receipt will depend on your service provider.

Are LIVE videos eligible for the TikTok Creativity Program Beta?

The program is geared towards standard video content, not live broadcasts. If you're interested in live streaming, you'll want to explore the monetization features there.
